Frankfurt a. M., 28th of January 2021 – The fast development of the audiobook market in the Spanish speaking world gets another notch up in a new collaboration between German distributor Bookwire and the international publishing house Saga Egmont on distribution of one of the world’s largest audiobook catalogues in Spanish.
The extension of the cooperation will add one of the biggest Spanish audiobook catalogues worldwide of 1,800 Spanish-language audiobooks and around 1,300 Spanish-language eBooks from Saga Egmont to the publisher’s approximately 5,500 German and English-language digital audiobook titles. The publisher, whose headquarters are in Copenhagen, Denmark, has been using Bookwire OS for its global digital distribution since November 2019.
“This extension shows how successful the cooperation has been so far. Saga and Bookwire are now expanding their joint strategy for digital distribution on the growth markets to also include this huge catalogue of Spanish audiobooks and, for the first time, eBooks, in order to strengthen the position of Saga on the Spanish-language market. We are glad that we can bring in the expertise of our local team to assist with this”, says Eric González Canova, General Manager Bookwire Spain.
Saga will supply all shops that are relevant to the Spanish-language market, including Amazon, Apple, Kobo, Nubico and Scribd, via Bookwire OS. The publishers use Bookwire OS for distribution, analysis and controlling of audiobooks and eBooks, in order to strategically expand their market presence. The Bookwire Spain team’s expertise on the Spanish-language markets complements the service to create a suitable comprehensive package, that offers great sales data for the publisher to navigate.
„Our focus is the well-being of our authors and rightsholders. It’s our main focus to work hard towards connecting our authors with as many readers as possible within this huge language. The books that Saga publishes should always be available to buy or access on whatever platform or service the readers prefer – this is our promise to our authors, and this cooperation with Bookwire is a great leap in this direction. This is our contribution, our piece of the puzzle to try and develop a still very young audiobook market in the Spanish-speaking part of the world together with our great retail partners and public libraries”, says Natalie Uldbjerg Hansen, Editor-in-Chief for Saga Spain.
Saga Egmont cooperates with many Spanish publishers such as Nordica Editorial and Alrevés as a digital partner, and are this year publishing bestselling author Jeffrey Archer in new brand Spanish translations as audiobooks in both neutral accent and Castilian accent, as well as cooperating with Laura Gallego on multi-cast audiobooks on her beloved trilogy Memorias de Idhún.
Saga Egmont was founded in 2014 as the digital publisher of Lindhardt og Ringhof. They publish eBooks and audiobooks in more than 30 languages across a vast distribution network of more than 300 retailers worldwide. They are owned by the Egmont Foundation, who each year donates parts of the revenue to charities and re-invest in building great media companies to grow with the modern consumer.
