28.10.2020

Frankfurt a. M., 28 October 2020 – Bookwire GmbH, Frankfurt a. M., and readbox publishing GmbH, Dortmund, are bundling their expertise to enable them to offer even more innovative technology products and a more extensive range of services for publishing clients. As part of this incipient cooperation, Bookwire has acquired readbox publishing GmbH. The merger comes into effect from 1 November 2020.

During the past ten years, Bookwire and readbox have used their powers of innovation alongside each other to shape the market for digital distribution and marketing solutions for publishers – now the two businesses are merging together with the aim of jointly giving customers even better support.

In future, Bookwire and readbox will work together to push ahead development of technical innovations in their comprehensive software solutions. Both companies will benefit from existing geographical proximity - in May 2020, Bookwire opened its own digital hub for expanding its operating system “Bookwire OS” at the readbox site in Dortmund. A joint innovation and development site will now be set up there.

Bookwire and readbox will continue to look after their existing clientele from their respective headquarters in Frankfurt a. M. and international branches (Bookwire), and Dortmund (readbox).

For the purposes of this merger, Bookwire GmbH has acquired all of the shares in readbox publishing GmbH. readbox founders Ralf Biesemeier (CEO) and Marcus Straßer (CTO) will remain in their current roles.

“This step is a win-win situation for everybody involved. The experts from readbox bring us at Bookwire vast amounts of know-how in the field of innovative technical solutions. In turn, readbox benefits from our decade’s worth of combining technology and personal customer care, so our learnings can benefit their customers too. However, the biggest winners are the publishers and shops in our respective client portfolios, because our combined expertise enables us to bring to market and establish even more powerful and innovative solutions in an even shorter time”, says Jens Klingelhöfer, CEO and Co-Founder of Bookwire GmbH.

“Bookwire has grown dramatically in recent years, and is also an international market leader, especially in the field of eBook and audiobook distribution. readbox offers publishers technical solutions for optimizing processes along the entire value chain. During the talks it quickly became clear that both businesses complement each other perfectly and would benefit from a mutual exchange of know-how. We are looking forward to learning from each other and working together to develop even better and more innovative solutions”, explains Ralf Biesemeier, founder and CEO of readbox publishing GmbH.

“I believe that “value-generating collaboration” are the defining keywords of our time. The aim of our strategic alliance is therefore to be able to achieve a stronger position, and one that is better for our partners, in the ever-evolving world of digitization. The merger of our two companies is the solution that will enable us to keep offering our clients the best in the future, in terms of both technology and service. For that reason, I am looking forward to the collaboration with Ralf Biesemeier and the readbox team”, adds John Ruhrmann, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Bookwire.

The merger operationally comes into force on 1 November 2020 and both companies have been preparing for it during recent months. As little will change for the 70 employees of Bookwire GmbH at its six international locations and for the team of 18 employees at readbox GmbH as it will for the publishing clients of the two businesses, many of whom they have been looking after for a number years.
